Each sheath is custom fitted. I need the
customer to leave the knife with me for a few days or send a
poster board outline tracing of the knife along with a picture
along side a ruler for comparison.
As simple as they may look there is a lot of
time involved. You have to first make a pattern, which involves
tracing out the knife, noting key areas of design, space and punch
out the holes, then cut the pattern out along with a gusset to
protect the knife blade. Once the pattern is made you have to
repeat the process on leather. After you cut the pattern out on
leather, I then bevel the edges, tool/design, dye/apply finishes,
and rivet/stitch the sheath. There are so many different kinds of
knives that it is hard to have pre-made cases ready to tool/dye.
Each one is unique and takes its own pattern and design. It takes
at least an hour to make the pattern/cut out/ tool design/dye and
finish the sheath.
